FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked question for category Adoption

[1] | [2] | [Next -->]
[Question]
If all of the animals on your site have been rescued from pounds and shelters, why do you charge an adoption fee when they are adopted ?
[Answer]
Although the animals that come into care have been lost, abandoned or surrendered. some pounds do charge us release fees.
Also, with all of the animals that come into our care, we do have them desexed, vaccinated, wormed, microchipped and we also have them treated for any medical conditions that they may be suffering from.
The adoption fee that we charge is just a way of having some of our veterinary expenses reimbursed.
[Question]
If I already have another pet, is it possible to bring it along to meet  an animal that I would like to adopt ?
[Answer]
Certainly !
We think this is really a great idea and in most cases it can be easily arranged when you are speaking to the foster carer involved.
[Question]
If I adopt  from Paws 'n' Hooves but for some reason I can't keep it, what can I do ?
[Answer]
If we do have a foster carer available to take your pet back into care we are always happy to take our animals back.
If there are no carers available at the time however, we will look at other options like adverting the animal on our website to help re-home it to another loving family.
We do ask, however that if you are moving or there is another reason you wish to return an animal you will need to give us as much notice as possible.
[Question]
If I adopt an animal from you and things "don't work out" with my other animals, what can I do about it  ?
[Answer]
As it's not always possible to find a "perfect match" all animals adopted from Paws 'n' Hooves come with a two week "cooling off period).
During this period, we are happy to take the animal back and either refund your adoption fee or help you look for a more suitable companion for you.
[Question]
I don't live in NSW, is it still possible to adopt one of your animals ?
[Answer]
Yes, it is  still possible to adopt one of our pets, but we do much prefer it if you could actually meet the animal first to ensure that you both "click".
Please keep in mind however, that interstate transport can be very expensive and if for any reason you wanted to return your new pet, all costs would be payable by the adopting family.
[Question]
What training (if any) do the animals have before they are adopted ?
[Answer]
This depends a lot on both the animal and the foster carer.
We do try whenever possible to teach them the basic commands like sit, stay and come etc.
We also try to have them housetrained and walking on a lead.
This is something else that can be discussed with the foster carer involved.
[Question]
Do you do property inspections before I can adopt a pet from you ?
[Answer]
Generally, a property inspection isn't  essential and this is something that is decided on a "case by case" basis. This can be discussed with the foster carer that has the animal that you are wanting to adopt.
[Question]
Is there any guarantee that the animal that I adopt is going to be  100% healthy ?
[Answer]
It is really impossible for us to guarantee that our animals are always going to be 100% healthy.
We can always assure you however, that if there are any health issues that appear while the animals are in our care, they are fully treated.
If they do have any ongoing problems, this will always be fully disclosed to any potential adopting family.
[Question]
How can I be sure that the animals on your site are actually the breeds you have listed with their name and photo?
[Answer]
In most cases, we have absolutely no idea of the animals background or family history so it is really impossible for us to be sure what breeds they are.
All that we can really do is guess the breeds, based on our experience and the opinions of the pound staff and vets that we deal with.
[Question]
Do you have a shelter or a pound that I can visit to meet all of the animals that are on your website ?
[Answer]
No, all of the animals that Paws 'n' Hooves care for, are looked after in our foster carers own homes.
By operating this way, it helps the animals become accustomed to a home environment with a loving family and it gives our carers a great opportunity to learn about the personalities of the animals that they are looking after.
