FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked question for category Miscellaneous

[Question]
If I find a stray animal, am I able to take it to a Paws 'n' Hooves carer ?
[Answer]
No, Paws 'n' Hooves are not legally permitted to take any stray animals into our care.
You should either call your local pound or council or alternatively, you can take the animal to a vet so that it can be scanned for a micro-chip.
By doing that, the owner can be contacted and advised where their pet is.
Even if the animal isn't micro-chipped, the most likely place that the owners would start looking for their lost family member, is at the pound.
We also suggest that you contact PET SEARCH on 1300 309 004 so that the details can be added to their "Found Pets Database".
[Question]
On your site, some animals are listed as "Private Adopton", what does that mean ?
[Answer]
These are animals whose owners are no longer able to keep them but they don't want them to be surrendered to a pound..
They are still living with their owners and are being advertised on our site to give them more exposure.

Please note, that Paws 'n' Hooves are not able to guarantee any of the information that has been written about these animals and therefore, they are not subject to any of Paws 'n' Hooves standard adoption conditions.
[Question]
I have a pet that I can no longer keep, would I be able to surrender it to Paws 'n' Hooves ?
[Answer]
Generally, we are not in a position to accept any surrendered animals as all of our foster carers' homes are normally "bursting at the seams" .
If you do have an animal that you can't keep however, we may be able to list it on our website as a "Private Adoption".
This would mean that you would hold on to your pet at home and any enquiries would be directed to you.
The only condition if you would like to use this service is that your pet MUST be de-sexed.
We do also ask for a donation to help us cover our costs when your pet is rehomed.
